The dress that will never be...

A couple of weeks ago we were visiting the parents of my fiancé. I had a chance to try on the wedding dress of my guys mom. She was very proud of it and still kept it in a secure bag.

Just for laughs I'll show you how I looked:

Hilarious. Don't you think?

Looking at this picture makes me wonder about the changes in fashion and wedding dress fashion. Will my kids try on my dress years from now and laugh about it, just like I laughed about this dress? Will it look old-fashioned and dated?

I don't think I need to explain why I won't be wearing this dress. My mom's dress won't be an option either. Will you be wearing the dress of your (or his) mom?

Flowergirls

It's not really common to have bridesmaids in the Netherlands. I wont be asking my girlfriends to act that part.

But a couple of days after our engagement we received letter requesting a job interview for the position of bridesmaids. A week later the beautiful daughters of my cousin had their chance to shine. They showed us they were able to carry flowers and a ringpillow:

Obviously they were hired! I love these girls, and I am very happy they will be there on our day. We're not sure what we'll have them do. But we still have time to think about that.

Do you have bridesmaids, flowergirls or a ringbearer?
And what will you have them do?

My shoes!

I have searched the world wide web for the perfect D'Orsays , I found a website that allowes you to design your own pump, but that didn't give me MY shoes. But I did find them.

I found them when I almost gave up looking for them. On a lazy saturday afternoon I was window shopping. Being the ever so decisive girl I snapped a couple of pictures and emailed them to my mom. Lucky for me she was home and just as enthausiastic about the shoes as I was.

These are the pictures I emailed her. Don't mind my jeans, I look silly pulling them up like that, but I was in a hurry to get my moms opinion.

I really LOVE my shoes!!
These Gucci beauties are dark blue satin. And even better: I caught them with a hughe discount.

My only concern is that we are planning on walking between all of our locations. Some streets in 's-Hertogenbosch we'll be walking are filled with "kinderkopjes" stones. Not really the best surface to be sporting stiletto heels.

Will I need a back-up shoe, for when my feet will get tired? Should I look for a "walking shoe" that will help me get past the hurdles of the street? I am not sure yet.

What kind of soe will you be wairing for your wedding? And did you have second thoughts after finding your shoes?

Design your own weddingshoe

I am having a hard time finding the perfect wedding shoe. I love wearing high heals, but how will dancing be after walking around on my high heels? And when I find a pair that just might work, the colour is just not right.

If only you could design your own shoes.
Wait a minute... you can! Nina shoes offers a feature on their website where you can design your own (wedding) shoe. In three simple steps you will be able to customize your own shoes.

First you have to pick the style of the shoe, there are five different type styles you can pick from:

For each type of shoe there is a choice in heel height:

And finally there is the option of 16 (!) different colours and additions to the shoe.

If this isn't shoe heaven, I don't know what is.

Too bad they only ship within the United States. *sad face*
I would love to completely design my own shoes. If anybody knows a company that offers something similar that also ships to Europe, please let me know!

Necklace

I am just in LOVE with these lace necklaces from Whiteowl.
The necklaces have a romantic feel to them, and would be a perfect vintage item for a bride:

This black beauty could just be the perfect gift for your bridesmaid:

These pieces of art sell for $28-$32. I just can't decide which one I like better.

Have you chosen your jewellery for your big day already?

A local treat

I have been thinking about adding a local treat to the wedding day. It isn’t the most diet friendly snack, but it is by far the best local food there is! I am talking about a Bossche bol.

source

A Bossche bol is a little under 5" wide profiterole pastry filled with whipped cream and topped with melted chocolate.
Eating a Bossche bol can get very messy. Years of experience have taught me to just forsake the knife and fork and hold the Bossche bol in your hands and just dig in. You shouldn't be counting calories and just enjoy. Trust me, your sanity needs you to do so.

A lot of bakeries make these treats, but there is one bakery that makes “the real ones”. You can really taste the difference, I for one am always very disappointed when a Bossche bol isn’t from this place.
To show you that I am not the only one feeling this way about this treat I’ll just show you what the bakery looks like on a regular Saturday:

Yes, that is a line of people waiting outside to be helped.

Will you serve your wedding guests a local treat?

I'll have that d'orsay?

Long before I found my wedding dress I knew what kind of shoe I wanted to wear. I love shoes and I am crazy about designer shoes. Besides, if I would buy ‘traditional wedding shoes’ wouldn’t that be a complete waste of money? I could splurge and get wicked designer shoes that I would be able to wear after my wedding day.

I have fallen hard for the Manolo Blahnik’s d’orsay pump. She is available in many colours, and it has some bling on the toe. What more could a girl wish for?

They are not easy to find, I’m not even sure a store in the Netherlands will sell these babies. But I won’t be shopping online for them if I’m not convinced it is a respectable store. There are just so many copy cats out there, and I’m not willing to spend even $20 on a fake pair.

I found these beauties on Neiman Marcus:

Sadly the colours that available now just aren’t as bright as I would want them to be. They would be a great addition to my collection, just not for the wedding. And if I’m going to spend $715 on my wedding shoes I am going to have to love-love-love them. Like these purple beauties.

For now, I will just keep dreaming about them.

Do you have a dream shoe for your wedding?
